6 Peaks or nothing! Active Hikes Holiday with a Mountain Leader with the Mont Thabor course

Hiking enthusiasts, the Clarée ‘3000-ers’ await you!

This Hiking Holiday is aimed at active hikers with good fitness levels. With your mountain leader you climb the Clarée Valley’s six iconic peaks, with the summit of the highest, Mont Thabor, sitting at an altitude of 3180m. You can admire the Alps stretching away seemingly endlessly from the summit of each of these mountains, including views of the Barre des Écrins, Monte Viso and Mont Blanc… No ropes are required as these walks are mountain hikes.

Each evening you return to the hotel where the restorative bubbles of the Jacuzzi, a detoxing sauna and the magic touch of our masseuses will help your aching muscles recover!

Programme of active hiking holiday:

Every day enjoy the summit views and lakes, lakes and more lakes!

  • Monday : The Grand Aréa (2869 m) :

Starting from the Pont de Rately (1749 m), we will walk up following the itinerary that goes by the Buffère mountain hut at Buffère pass (2427 m). It is a welcoming open glen to warm up before the 450-meter climb between the pass and the summit which are steeper. We will be a little below the threshold of « 3000 » meters but the identity of the summit and the awsome view over the Guisane valley and the Ecrins are worth it.

    Difference in height : + and – 1150m. A 6-to-7-hour-long walk

  • Tuesday : The Pic du Lac Blanc (2980 m)

Starting from the Fontcouverte parking lot (1860 m), we will initiate a very popular climb towards the Ricou hamlet and its mountain hut, and the lakes Laramon (2359 m), Serpent (2448 m) and Gardioles. It is a busy but beautiful itinerary and we want to aim higher. The higher we climb, the clearer is the view. The peak of the Lac Blanc, just below the threshold of 3000 meters provides a vantage point from which to enjoy a vast clear view as far as the Mont-Blanc.

    Difference in height : + and - 1150m. A 9-to-7-hour-long walk

  • Wednesday : The Pointe des Cerces (3097 m)

Back to the Laval parking lot (2030 m) we will walk up along the Clarée river as far as its source. From the Clarée lake we will cross into Savoie region at the Seuil des Rochilles (2459 m). We will then walk along the Rochilles lakes and arrive at the pass of the Cerces (2574 m). For the end of the ascent we will leave the beaten tracks. First we will cross the little turns above the Cerces lake then follow a steep slope in the mineral cirque of the North face. The cross situated at the top will reward us with « I deserve what I want » ! That is worth thinking about while you pant.

    Difference in height : + and - 1100m. A 7-to-8-hour-long walk

  • Thursday : The Gardiole (2753 m)

The trek starts from the hotel, follows the Clarée river and the ascent to the Planchettes. This round trip will allow you to discover the glens of Oule and Cristol, whichever direction you choose. A first steep ascent across a forest will lead you to one of the hanging glens, then you will cross alpine pastures before reaching the ridge line from which you will be able to admire the scenery over the Guisane, the Ecrins and the Queyras.

    Difference in height : + and - 1250m. A 6-to-7-hour-long walk

  • Friday : The Mont Thabor (3178 m)

The most popular summit in our mountain range ! A summit which lies between the Northern and Southern Alps. Starting from the Laval parking lot (2030 m), we will walk up to the Muandes glen and its lakes as far as the Muandes pass (2828m) then to the Roche du Chardonnet (2950 m). We will follow the border with the Savoie region through the Valmeinier Pass to overcome the deep glens that lead to the distinctive round-topped summit of Mount Thabor. That’s a must !

    Difference in height : + and - 1300m. A 7-to-8-hour-long walk

  • Saturday : The Aiguille Rouge (2545 m)

To end the holiday we will have a shorter day as some of us sometimes have to leave earlier to go back home. There’s no need for transport, we will walk directly from the hotel towards the crest of Tête Noire (2183 m) through the forest. From there, we will climb the winding paths to the final pyramid of this summit which is small in terms of altitude but great for its view from the top and the atmosphere there.

    Difference in height : + and - 950m. A 5-hour-long walk
End of the holiday in the afternoon after the trek at about 3 pm.
