Activities in the Clarée valley throughout the seasons

The Clarée Valley in Summer

In summer the Vallée de la Clarée is a walker’s paradise, with 250km of marked paths, some 30 lakes, and fast-flowing waterfalls
The area is full of walks that start in the valley floor, including right outside the hotel, that explore:

  • Easy hikes along the Clarée river,
  • lakes that can be reached in an hour or a little over,
  • peaks including the legendary 3178m Mont Thabor and the 3097m Pointe des Cerces, offering 360º views over the whole of the Alps,
  • and balcony walking circuits through the Écrins, such as the Tour des Cerces

There is something for everyone in our beautiful valley!
And in the High Season you don’t even have to get into your car to get to the start of the walks, thanks to the Haute Vallée de Clarée shuttle service (‘navettes’).

The Clarée Valley in Winter

In winter why not explore the Vallée de la Clarée on snowshoes or cross-country skis, or even leading a dog sled team?
There are no noisy chairlifts or cable cars here, no apartment blocks or housing estates to spoil the views, just untouched nature, a traditional mountain village… and you.

A number of walks start from the hotel: you can

  • hike up to the huts in the upper valley for lunch or a hot drink,
  • follow the Clarée river to Fontcouverte,
  • walk through the woods where you might spot some of the local wildlife.
  • you can also explore the Col de l’Echelle when the road is closed and it becomes a quiet little corner of the Alps…

For cross-country skiers the local ski area comprises 80km of pistes and Nordic routes, with green, blue, red and black pistes through woods, out in the sun and along the Clarée… There are also links to the valley’s other villages, Plampinet, Val-des- Prés and Le Rosier...

Come wintertime, the upper valley reverts to its wild roots… The road is closed  from the Ville Haute onwards and is transformed into a Nordic route, for skiers, snowshoers and walkers…
